The Tubman Museum provided an inspiring and educational cultural experience with outstanding exhibits, beautiful artwork, and meaningful historical presentations throughout the visit. The museum beautifully celebrates African American history, art, and culture through thoughtfully curated exhibits that are both visually engaging and deeply informative. I especially appreciated the powerful historical displays, contemporary art collections, and interactive exhibits that highlighted important stories and achievements connected to African American heritage. I went to an event in February 2025 with my granddaughter. It was a Black History Month production, and it was awesome. The building and everything inside were spectacular. They had a Tyler Perry exhibit, and oh my, I loved it. I really enjoyed learning about my heritage here in Macon and didn't realize how much amazing Black history Macon has. It was a lot because it was my first time there. Since then, I've been to several events there, and it was awesome. I recommend everyone take the time to experience the wonders of the Tubman Museum and our beautiful city, despite all the chaos you hear about all the time. We truly have a rich heritage.

Known as the largest facility in the Southeast dedicated to African American art, history, and culture, it serves as a massive hub for the region. The museum was the dream of Reverend Richard Keil, a Catholic priest who spent decades serving in predominantly Black churches. He personally signed for a loan to purchase the first building on Walnut Street in 1981. It opened its doors in 1985 in an 8,500-square-foot space. After years of planning and some delays due to the 2008 economic downturn, this new 49,500-square-foot facility was completed. To mark the move, community members held a ceremonial march from the old building to the new one for the ribbon-cutting. This museum was a small but had great information. My teenage children and I really enjoyed. You can probably view everything within 2 hours or less.

Arrived in town early for an event I have this evening and thought I would check out this museum. I expected the African-American history but I did not expect the collaboration with local agencies to celebrate equality for those with disabilities. There were also exhibits from local artist graduating from a nearby college that were so powerful! Super friendly service in a nice gift shop as well.

When I was in 10th grade, I’m 70 now, and wrote a report on Harriet Tubman. Her life inspired me. Born a slave, escaped north and was a spy helping other people to escape to freedom…and eventually she became a nurse…and she inspired me to become a nurse. Was an honor to learn more about her as a person, about her life work and eventually her death. Thank you Harriet!
